US General Manager

Reporting to the Director of International Sales and located in the company’s Portland, OR office, the US General Manager is responsible for operating and growing the US market, in line with the company’s overall global strategy and goals. The General Manager will partner closely with the headquarters team to understand the global platforms for marketing, pricing, product and supply chain, locally adapting and implementing the global platform to meet the needs of the US market and guiding the US team in its execution. This role will also be the lead in developing and executing US market and sales strategy. The ideal candidate will be a confident and collaborative leader, driving the product vision and leveraging the global brand reputation while motivating and developing a team of 35 direct and indirect reports. This person will also operate as a strong facilitator between the US business unit, the global team and other country-specific GMs, identifying opportunities for synergy and applying best practices. As the US GM, this person will be involved in the global team, setting company and brand strategic plans.


  • Partners with the CEO and senior leadership team to set long range plan and go-to-market strategies for the US market
  • Drives and oversees the company’s full portfolio of strategic and tactical initiatives and design of core business process workflows
  • Runs service operations, including omni-channel customer service and retail store operations, supply chain, production, accounting, quality assurance, IT and human resources
  • Drives a culture of consumer-focus, analytical rigor, transparency and collaboration, entrepreneurship, and continuous improvement
  • Develops and manages profitable, productive relationships with complex network of industry-distinctive customers
  • Assures flawless, premium, personal omni-channel store operations and lifetime consumer experiences; from initial product launch to education, purchase, delivery, and return
  • Explores, recommends, and capitalizes on new business opportunities based on business analysis, benchmark research, and prior experience
  • Recruits, retains and develops a team that delivers performance excellence while fostering a collaborative and authentic team environment aligned with company culture
  • Builds and maintains relationships with company global leadership
  • P&L responsibility for all US operations
  • Drives significant growth objectives
  • Launch new brand into the US in 2-3 years
  • Leads product creation and sourcing team, creating selected lines for the global company


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field from four-year college or university required, MBA preferred
  • 10-15 years of related work experience in sales and marketing in global organizations, specifically within the sporting goods, outdoor and/or active performance industries. A thorough knowledge of the US cycling market and its consumers is strongly preferred
  • Entrepreneurial approach to operating and growing a business unit, with direct responsibility for P&L management
  • Knowledge of effective sales & marketing practices and procedures, including analytical techniques used to accurately forecast sales and measure the effectiveness of sales & marketing programs
  • Exposure to supply chain, product sourcing, operations, importing, warehousing and financial planning
  • Ability to convey enthusiasm to others, well-developed leadership skills, proven ability to train, coach and inspire subordinates and peers to achieve their personal best
  • Ability to establish rapport and relate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization, as well as business associates outside the company
  • Well-developed organizational and time management skills. Ability to set priorities and meet reasonable deadlines consistently
